MY DAUGHTER IS LOOKING FOR INFORMATION FOR A CLASS PROJECT ON A CASTLE LOCATED IN ASHEVILLE, NC CALLED OVERLOOK OR SEELY CASTLE. IT WAS BUILT IN THE EARLY 1900 BY FRED SEELY. IT SERVED FOR A TIME AS AHSEVILLE BILTMORE COLLEGE. DO YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THE PAST HISTORY OR CURRENT OWNERS |

I am interested in knowing the history of Seely Castle.
My Grandparents were care takers there when I was about 8. I have been in the castle and would like to go again. I live in Asheville. Tell me more.
Thanks, Geraline |

Hello,
My grandmother was the daughter of EW Grove, Marjorie Grove who grew up in St. Louis. I hope to find more information about her early years. Seely, of Seely's castle, married my grandmother's sister.
My grandmother is the third child of EW Grove. However, Marjorie Grove may have been adopted by the Grove family, but we have just scant information. My grandmother only discussed a few details about her childhood.
Any information would be most welcomed.
Thanks very kindly,
Byron Golden |

[qMy father was born and raised in Asheville some 80years ago. We still visit family there. My father showed my Seely's Castle one time but never really could get close to it.
Is there anyway to visit the property? I would love to see it up close. Thank you. |

It is their private residence. I visited the castle when I was a child in the sixties. My memories are vague, but I do remember the lions at the tunnel beneath the library. The castle is rich in history, which I have been researching religously. No, I will not encroach on the the owners of the castle. I was watching a "B" rated horror movie and something about the movie struk a nerve with me, it was filmed at the castle and in Charlotte , where I live now. A schoolmate of mine (Reggie Belk) had a minor part in the movie. If you are interested on some of the history of the castle you can email me at mjarrell@hotmail. .com _________________ Dennis M Jarrell |
