I am looking for the possible whereabouts of Methvyn castle in Northumerland. This is not to be confused with Methven castle near Perth in Scotland. There is supposedly a connection between the Izat family and Methvyn castle but there seems to be no official record of this.
Any information on the castle would be welcomed. |

Hi
My name is John Izat too. There is (or was) a Lady Izat who owns (or owned) a castle in Scotland. I hadn't heard about the Northumberland castle connection.
Funny old world.
Cheers

Hi,
Back in the 1960's I phoned Lady Izat but she wasn't too forthcoming, she is Lady Izat of Dollar and at that time her phone number was in the book,

My grandmother's maiden name was Izatt, apparently changed from the earlier Izat and even earlier De Izat. I am in possession of information that a Sir Walter de Izat, 2nd Knight of Methvyn (Northumberland) attempted to assasinate Cromwell in the year 1645, failed, was caught and beheaded for it. His lands were confiscated and his wife and infant son moved in order to avoid persecution. Later when the King was back in power and the lands regained an illegitimate brother of the infant along with a cousin of Sir Walter rented the lands without authorization to a Howard family. The son attempted to regain his lands but his suits failed and he became a farmer in Scotland where my grandmother's family eventually emigrated to the U. .S. I have been told that this same family is still in possession of the land but have no evidence. I hope this information is helpful. |

My mother's maiden name was Izatt and your information is correct on the Methven Castle, at Methven, Fife, Scotland. It is located West of Perth on A-85. We have pictures of the Castle and the names of the present owners. We are going to Scotland in July 2006. If you have any information we could use, it would be appreciated. Please send me your address, phone number & e-mail. We might have information that would be of help to you. I will be at the below address & number until March 25, 2006 . After that date I will be in Idaho at the last address. Please send any information to the below addresses.
