Review
this castle
Dunstanburgh, a vast castle of John of Gaunt, occupies a wonderfully strong
natural site on a promontory overlooking the North Sea. Though very ruinous and
uninhabited for centuries, it has a great dramatic power.

One of the most beautiful ruined castles in
Britain! You can reach it by walking along a cliff path through green
open fields (in summer anyway, this _is_ Britain after all!)
Was once (14th century) one of the castles belonging to John of
Gaunt, who enlarged it and added one of the towers, which is now names
after him.
Well worth a visit. Beautiful castle, beautiful views, great
memories. |
