The castle of Embid was a stronghold of the frontier between the kingdoms of Castile and Aragon, not far from the river Piedra.
Its hexagonal plan consists of a wall flanked by towers that recall proto-ogival architecture. The square principal tower is free-standing in the center.

The thirteenth-century document in which Alfonso XI ordered the fortification of this enclave still exists. The castle was later the site of battles between the kingdoms of Peter the Cruel and John II. During the War of Succession it was burned by Austrian troops as they retreated towards Aragon.

The northern part of the building is still intact, including the battlements of the towers and walls.
