I don't know how old most of the people here are, but has anyone thought about getting together and building their own castle from scratch as an educational project. I think it would not only be educational, but the hands on building of a castle (but at the same time designing modern conviences into it such as: Copper pipes in the flooring, Solar Panels on the tops of the Turrets in such a way that they would not be noticed, Wind Power, etc.).
The art of doing things as they did during the Middle Ages/Medieval Times are being lost to history if we let it. It would be interesting to see what a bunch/group of people could do together as a team.
I want to one day build my own castle and I intend to make it pay for itself: Such as:
Building the Great Hall first and living in it while I build the rest of the Castle. I want to build a Chapel that can have multiple uses, such as a Recording Studio and a place for people to be married. ( I want to make the chapel Accustically Accurate' so when you walk in and speak to someone you can hear your own echo.)
I also want to use the Great Hall for Receptions, banquets, etc. Once the Castle begins to take shape. I would have a Haunted Castle and open it on Halloween nite.
There are many way in which a person could make a Castle pay for itself in the long run and for a group of people to do it as an educational project would attract newpaper people and others. You might even be able to get volunteers to help work on the Castle and when it's done put a bronze plaque up of all the people who helped build it. I heard of someone doing this in Australia and not only are they building a Castle, but they are also building a Medieval Village where Crafts People can work and sell wares that they make as long as they are a craft from Medieval Times. Things like Blacksmithing, Stainglass Windows and other things. It can also be a place for young people can go for an educational outting.
Just something to think about. _________________ Raven77 |
