Thanks to my son, I've found what I think is a good, basic book of castles. He brought it home from the school library. It is called The World of Castles and Forts by Malcolm Day. Published by Peter Bedrick Books in 1999, it has two-page illustrations and descriptions of structures starting with the Mycenaean citadel, through Norman motte-and-bailey types to the Maginot Line and domestic air-raid shelters. Forty-five pages including a glossary and index.
Additionally, I pulled from my personal library a book titled Incredible Cross-Sections by Stephen Biesty. Although the book doesn't feature castles exclusively, it offers a decent two-page cross-section illustration of life inside one of these giants.
I hope you find them interesting and useful, too. |
